January 1, Cutting the Army Hands China an Advantage

Wyatt’s Take

  • World leaders like Xi, Putin, and Kim are teaming up and flexing their muscles at military shows, giving America a clear warning.
  • Some in Washington want to shrink our Army, which would weaken us right when our enemies are watching.
  • A strong Army isn’t just for battle—it’s about keeping jobs, providing opportunity, and standing tall against threats from China and Russia.

China, Russia, and North Korea’s show of unity at a military parade in Beijing sent a pointed message to the United States. At the same time, Congress is back from recess and talking about boosting military funding, especially for our Army.

But powerful voices in the government want to shrink the Army from about 450,000 to as low as 360,000 troops. They claim cutting forces will create a “leaner, more lethal” Army and help pay for missile defense, but this plan involves slashing thousands of jobs.

While some argue we should shift funds to the Air Force and Navy, hoping high-tech jets and ships can do the job, that idea misses the point. China’s military edge comes from its huge number of land-based planes and strong defenses on their home turf, so relying solely on ships and drones won’t cut it.

What really keeps Beijing in check is the fact that America has unmatched military might in every branch—especially our world-class Army. The Navy’s mighty carriers matter, but there’s only so many planes they can carry, and China can launch far more from land.

Critics want to spend less on manpower and more on drones, but Ukraine’s war has proven that drones are easily shot down or jammed. Victories on the battlefield still come down to soldiers holding the ground with the right equipment and support.

Our Army isn’t just about fighting—the jobs and skills it provides are a lifeline for countless American families. Downsizing now, with global threats rising, is reckless and only makes our adversaries bolder.

Bureaucratic red tape and waste are slowing down all branches, not just the Army. The answer is making our forces bigger and better by cutting waste, not by cutting soldiers or equipment.

Relying on technology alone or shifting resources between branches will not prepare us for the challenges ahead. America needs to make sure every branch is strong and ready.
