Wyatt’s Take

  • Cuba suffers a second total power grid collapse in one week.
  • Residents face outages with cell service and internet unavailable.
  • Officials work to restore power to hospitals and water pumps.

The lights have gone out across Cuba once again as their socialist system continues to crumble. Millions are sitting in the dark because a government-run power plant in Nuevitas failed and took the whole country down with it.

Officials claim they are setting up small circuits to keep hospitals and water pumps running. However, most of the 10 million people on the island are left swatting mosquitoes in the dark.

Havana resident Leoni Alberto spoke for many who are tired of the constant failures.

“Life doesn’t change. We’re stuck in the same rut,” Alberto said.

“It’s absolute madness. There’s no other way around it.”

The Cuban government loves to blame others for their problems. The reality is their Soviet-style economy cannot keep the lights on.

While they point fingers at trade policies, the truth is a lack of maintenance and total economic incompetence. Prime Minister Manuel Marrero admitted the recovery is happening under very complex circumstances.

This marks the third major blackout this month alone, proving the island is teetering on a total breakdown.
