  • U.S. officials crack down on spies and hackers.
  • Buying land near bases and spreading toxins stokes fears.

Chinese spies and hackers have been caught targeting America this year with dangerous plots and cyberattacks. Federal agents disrupted efforts to steal military secrets, smuggle toxins, and buy up land near key military areas.

In one case, a former U.S. Navy sailor was punished for trying to sell information to a Chinese officer, while other Chinese nationals attempted to sneak deadly substances into the country. A researcher from Michigan secretly received payments from China to work with a dangerous pathogen and later confessed, along with her boyfriend, to smuggling the substance through Detroit airport. Both were deported after being caught.

Another Chinese researcher in Indiana tried to bring E. coli into the U.S. and lied to authorities, according to the FBI. Officials also uncovered a hidden network from China’s Ministry of State Security, trying to bribe American soldiers into sharing secrets.

Cyberthreats escalated too, with attacks tied to Chinese hackers nicknamed “Salt Typhoon” breaching over 200 companies and targeting lawmakers and wiretaps. Big telecoms like AT&T and Verizon were among those exposed. The Justice Department also shut down a China-run hacker-for-hire ring stealing sensitive information and masking China’s involvement.

Worries grew as Chinese-linked groups bought land next to military bases, including one near Missouri’s Whiteman Air Force Base. Experts warn that these moves, along with attempts to cripple crops and our power grid, are signs of Communist China treating the U.S. as its enemy.

“From smuggling crop-killing pathogens and E. Coli into the United States, to conspicuously purchasing a trailer park that shares a fence with America’s entire B-2 bomber fleet and selling ‘green’ tech devices that spread kill switches across our electrical grid, Communist China seeks to harm the American homeland,” said Michael Lucci of State Armor Action.

“These events are just the tip of the iceberg,” he added. “Lawmakers across the country must accelerate action to shield Americans from CCP influence, espionage, and sabotage. Communist China treats the United States as an enemy, and it is past time we recognize the CCP party-state always and everywhere chooses conflict with the United States.”

It’s time for officials at every level to wake up and push for stronger protections against sabotage from overseas.
