January 1, Cheney fuels Trump feud: ‘I like Republican presidents who win re-election’
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is apparently extending her feud with former President Donald Trump, with a tweet reading, “I like Republican presidents who win re-election.” A picture of former President George W. Bush accompanied the post.
Cheney posted the tweet ahead of an interview with “60 Minutes,” wherein she said that some congressional Republicans privately encouraged her to continue her outspoken efforts against Trump.
“Have members of Congress, Republicans, come up to you privately and whispered in your ear ‘Way to go, Liz’ and encouraged you but won’t come forward and say that publicly?” Lesley Stahl asked Cheny in the interview.
“Yes,” Cheney said.
The pair have been entangled in a public feud after Cheney joined nine other Republicans in voting to impeach Trump following the events at the US Capitol building on Jan. 6. The GOP relieved Cheney of her duties as Republican Conference Chairwoman in May.
Trump recently endorsed attorney Harriet Hageman, Cheney’s challenger for the upcoming primary.
