A Canadian high school was hit with a mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. Authorities say at least 10 people lost their lives, and another 25 were hurt. Police used the word “gunperson” for the attacker, offering few other details.

Six bodies were found in the school, with another victim passing away while being taken to the hospital. The shooter is said to have died from a self-inflicted injury. Two more people were discovered dead in a nearby home—this is believed to be connected to the school attack.

“We have no confirmation at this time on the number of individuals injured or requiring assistance,” the Royal Canadian Mounted Police shared in a statement.

Police told folks living nearby to stay inside and lock their doors while they keep searching for anyone else linked to these crimes. The motive for the shooting, along with the attacker’s identity, hasn’t been made public. Around 25 people suffered injuries considered not life-threatening.

Events like this shake a community to its core. Families are left grieving, and neighbors are left with more questions than answers.
