January 1, California Dem Hopeful Walks Out on Tough Questions
Wyatt’s Take
- Leading Democrat Katie Porter ended an interview over questions about Trump voters.
- Porter is ahead by a slim margin, but many voters haven’t picked a side yet.
- The exchange with the reporter got tense before Porter walked out.
Porter, running for governor in California, cut a TV interview short after being pressed about needing support from Trump voters to win. She responded by questioning why she would need those votes, pushing back on the idea.
As the interview continued, things became heated as Porter and the reporter debated what was being asked. Porter decided to end the conversation, saying it was getting too argumentative.
At one point, Porter said, “I don’t want to keep doing this. I’m gonna call it. Thank you.”
The Democratic primary is still wide open, with Porter holding only a single-digit lead. Polls show as many as 38% of voters undecided for the next election.
Porter says she believes she can win over non-Trump voters if the race is against a Republican. Her main competition right now is Republican Chad Bianco, who is trailing in the polls but could gain ground with so many undecided voters.
Wyatt Matters
Folks want candidates who can handle real questions without running. Voters are looking for grit and honesty, not staged answers or walking away when things heat up.
