January 1, Bride Excludes Conservative Uncle — But Still Expects Wedding Gift

Published

on

An unusual saga of a wedding and a gift that never came to be has surfaced, showcasing the growing ideological divides in America.

A progressive woman, preparing for her nuptials, decided that her conservative uncle’s presence at the wedding would make her feel “unsafe,” leading her to exclude him from the guest list, according to her parent who detailed the incident in a letter to an advice columnist.

However, the plot thickens as the bride was still expecting a generous wedding gift from her uninvited uncle.

“Four months before my daughter’s wedding, she told me that her uncle (my brother, ‘Dave’) would make her feel unsafe if he was a guest. She asked me not to invite him,” the parent wrote to the columnist.

“My daughter is very politically progressive, as are many of her friends, and although she and Dave have always had a good relationship (I thought), he is a conservative voter and has supported candidates we all abhor.”

While family squabbles over political differences are not uncommon, this particular incident takes it a step further.

After uninviting him from the wedding due to political differences, the bride was allegedly banking on receiving a wedding gift from her conservative uncle, who was known for giving family members checks in excess of $1,000 on their wedding days.

In a situation that would make anyone pause and question the sense of entitlement, the bride’s parent went on to express disappointment in the uncle’s supposed “petty behavior” of not sending a wedding gift despite being barred from the celebration.

In her response to the letter, advice columnist Amy Dickinson fittingly said that this scenario could “enter the Bridezilla Hall of Infamy,” pointing out that those who bar family members due to ideological differences shouldn’t expect to enjoy the benefits of their monetary generosity.

“Brides who are too afraid of family members to invite them to a family wedding don’t then get the pleasure of receiving their money,” Dickinson remarked.

Bottom Line

This incident shines a spotlight on the widening political chasm in our society, where differences in political ideology can trump familial bonds to the point where relatives are barred from attending important life events.

More alarmingly, it showcases a level of entitlement that seems to be growing among certain quarters, where respect for differing viewpoints has been abandoned in favor of a myopic focus on self-interest.

I love this response as well. I would just add one thing-make sure that an acknowledgement is sent to the bride thanking her for her generous contribution to the Trump campaign. That should send her crying and screaming into her “safe space”!

You can thank the media, social networks, fake news, lies and big money for creating the political divide, possibly parents as well. Never before have families broken up as much because of this. Why the bride to be would feel unsafe seems to be an idea that was instilled in her by her immediate family. Which is a pitiful situation. She doesn’t deserve anything from her uncle. He deserves an apology.

Well the uncle should be putting his foot down. When she grows up to be 60 or olderr she understand where the uncle is coming from. These millenials and Gen Z should gave had their butts paddled more with consequences for their tantrums and smart mouths. Unfortunately now they think they are entitled, both boys and girls cry when they don’t get their way and lazy. They can’t think for themselves and have their faces in those damn phones all the time. I saw a girl walking down the street and saw a street light in the way. I pulled over to watch her. She smacked her stupid head into the lamp. Good job Gen Z! You just proved my point! Not all but many and expect everything given to them.

I would hazard to guess that the bride, her mother and that part of the family all voted for and supported candidates the the uncle abhored.

I agree with almost all of the comments made so far. How ludicrous to think that you are “afraid
of your own uncle”, but not afraid of his money. What an ingrate.
