January 1, Antifa Members Face Terror Charges After ICE Attack
Wyatt’s Take
- Federal grand jury indicts two alleged Antifa members for attacking Texas ICE facility.
- Officials call the attack a planned act of terrorism targeting law enforcement.
- Trump administration acts swiftly with new authority to hold extremists accountable.
Two men accused of ties to Antifa have been charged in federal court for a violent assault on an ICE detention site in Texas last July. Law enforcement leaders say this is the first time Antifa-linked suspects have faced terrorism charges in America.
FBI Director Kash Patel said,
“For the first time ever, the FBI has arrested anarchist violent extremists and charged these Antifa-aligned individuals with material support to terrorism.”
According to the indictment, Cameron Arnold and Zachary Evetts face charges including material support for terrorism, attempted murder of federal officers, and using firearms in the attack. The violence targeted Prairieland Detention Center, where armed suspects ambushed law enforcement on July 4th.
Patel added,
“This was a planned and coordinated terrorist attack on the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, where armed extremists tried to murder U.S. officers.”
He noted the FBI has arrested over twenty individuals tied to this case and related Antifa networks.
Attorney General Pam Bondi called Antifa a “left-wing terrorist organization” that will face full prosecution.
The Justice Department said a larger group attempted to ambush ICE agents, with some dressed in tactical gear and armed with AR-style rifles. Reports detail that the suspects used fireworks, fired on officers, and sprayed political graffiti during the assault.
One police officer was shot and wounded, while others took cover as rounds were fired at unarmed correctional staff. Authorities recovered guns, body armor, radios, and propaganda fliers at the scene. The indictment states Arnold shouted, “Get to the rifles,” and then opened fire before fleeing with the group. Officers eventually stopped the attackers, several of whom were heavily armed and wearing protective gear.
President Trump has signed an order classifying Antifa as a terrorist organization amid growing demands for law and order.
