January 1, Afghan Migrant Shouts During DC Guard Attack
Wyatt’s Take
- Suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he attacked National Guard troops in D.C.
- He entered America after the Afghan military collapse in 2021.
- One Guard member killed, another seriously hurt near the White House.
A man accused of firing on two West Virginia National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., screamed “Allahu Akbar” as he shot at them last Wednesday. The suspect is Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national who came to the U.S. after the military withdrawal in 2021.
He was part of a CIA-linked Afghan strike unit before entering the United States. He used a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver in the attack near the Farragut West Metro Station, just blocks from the White House.
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom died from her wounds, while Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe remains in the hospital. Officials say Lakanwal drove from Washington state and opened fire without warning.
“Allahu Akbar” translates as “God is greater,” and some terrorists shout it during attacks to spread fear and claim their actions as a holy struggle.
