A Georgia man has been arrested and charged for allegedly making violent threats against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and her family.

The man, identified as 34-year-old Sean Patrick Cirillo, reportedly called Greene’s office, claiming to be a major donor before threatening to shoot the Republican congresswoman in the head with a sniper rifle.

“I’m going to kill her next week. I’m going to murder her,” Cirillo allegedly screamed into the phone. “You don’t think you’re going to get payback? You’re going to die. Your family is going to die.”

Cirillo has been charged with using communication devices to make threats, a felony, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. Following the threat, Greene closed her district office in Dalton, Georgia, stating that she faces death threats almost daily.

Another Georgia Republican, Rep. Rich McCormick, also had to close his district office in Cumming after staff received “serious threats of violence.”

Greene expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their swift response to the threat, thanking the Rome City Police, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Capitol Police, the House Sergeant at Arms, and the FBI for their efforts in arresting Cirillo.

“I’m not the only victim with this threat of violence. My family is threatened. My staff is threatened,” Greene said. “I even had to close my district office due to the potential of violence. It’s wrong and never should happen.”

The controversial congresswoman, elected in 2020, is known for her contentious statements and social media posts. Greene has remained a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, backing him during his 2024 presidential campaign and numerous legal battles, including his pending trial in her home state of Georgia.

Why It Matters

The alarming arrest of a man threatening to kill Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her family is a stark reminder of the disturbing trend of political violence in America.

As a conservative, I am appalled that our elected officials have to fear for their lives simply for expressing their beliefs. This isn’t just about Greene; Rep. Rich McCormick also had to close his office due to threats. We must stand against this erosion of free speech and protect our right to express our opinions without fear.

If we let these extremists silence our representatives, democracy itself is at risk. Let’s stand united and demand an end to political violence.
