The entertainment world mourns as we lose another of our beloved actors. Patti Yasutake, who made a name for herself as Nurse Alyssa Ogawa in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” has passed away at the respectable age of 70 after fighting a long battle against cancer.

Kyle Fritz, Yasutake’s manager and close friend, confirmed the sad news of her peaceful passing, surrounded by loved ones, as reported by Deadline. Patti’s phenomenal career led her from strength to strength, ending on a pinnacle with her final role in the highly praised limited series, “Beef”. Fritz reminisced about her, stating, “Patti was my first client when I began over 30 years ago. Every day spent working with her was a pleasure, and I will sorely miss her spirited talent, her tenacity, but most of all, her friendship.”

Yasutake’s iconic role as Nurse Alyssa Ogawa in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” was later reprised in “Star Trek Generations.” Her enduring contribution to this globally popular franchise will be remembered fondly by fans worldwide.

Yasutake was also recognized for her work outside of the Star Trek universe, receiving a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award Supporting Actress for her compelling performance in the 1988 movie, “The Wash.”

Yasutake’s impressive list of credits include films like “Drop Dead Gorgeous”, “Blind Spot,” and “Road to Galveston,” besides numerous notable appearances in popular TV shows like “The Closer”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Bones,” “Flash Forward,” “The Unit,” and “Cold Case.”

Beyond her on-screen success, Yasutake was a fervent participant in theatre, directing many successful projects with passion and dedication.

Yasutake is survived by Linda Hayashi and Steven Yasutake, her siblings, as well as a host of nieces and nephews who were part of her extended family.

A memorial will be held at the East West Players Theatre honoring her memory. Her family has made a humble request that in lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to the theater company. This is indeed a sad day for the entertainment industry, as we bid goodbye to a woman who has given us so much.
