January 1, Actor Says He Was Fired From Show Because of His Unvaccinated Status
General Hospital actor Steve Burton said he was fired from the show over refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I wanted you to hear it from me personally,” Burton says in an Instagram video. “Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate.”
The actor said he applied for medical and religious exemptions but was denied.
“This is also about personal freedom to me. I don’t think anybody should lose their livelihood over this,” Burton said.
Burton played Jason Morgan on General Hospital for 30 years. He was in more than 2,200 episodes of the daytime soap opera.
“Maybe one day if these mandates are lifted, I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor,” Burton said. “And if not, I’m going to take this amazing experience, move forward and be forever grateful.”
