January 1, Packers Silence Cowboys as NFC East Teeters on the Brink

Wyatt’s Take

  • The Packers just hammered another nail in the NFC East coffin while the North keeps stacking wins.
  • Dallas defense looked lost again, proving that hiring old coordinators won’t fix a broken locker room.
  • Real America is tired of watching teams that can’t protect the ball or stand tall on defense.

The Green Bay Packers took care of business Sunday night, beating the Dallas Cowboys 23-13 at Lambeau Field. The win left the entire NFC East still searching for a victory in Week 6.

Last week both the Eagles and Cowboys lost. The Giants and Commanders managed only an overtime tie. This week the Giants and Eagles lost again, leaving Washington as the last East team with a chance.

The Cowboys defense has been a mess all season. They gave up big plays to a rookie quarterback in their own stadium and now surrendered two picks to Dak Prescott against Green Bay. Mike Pettine came out of retirement to help, yet the same problems keep showing up.

“A seasoned football mind might be what the Cowboys need in the long run, but it didn’t work tonight against the Packers.”

Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love is finally playing like the franchise guy fans hoped for. He threw for 276 yards and a touchdown to Matthew Golden, who finished with 104 yards receiving. The Packers defense also grabbed two more turnovers to keep the pressure on.

“The franchise man continues to build a strong rapport with his receivers, finishing 23-of-41 for 276 yards with a touchdown pass to Matthew Golden, who led the game with 104 yards on six grabs.”

Meanwhile the NFC North looks like the class of the conference. Green Bay and Chicago both sit at 4-2. Minnesota remains unbeaten at 5-0. Detroit is 3-2. Every team in that division finished above .500 last year and they are off to another strong start.

The NFC East, by contrast, could finish the first two weeks of October without a single win. That kind of futility is exactly why heartland fans roll their eyes at big-market teams that talk a better game than they play.

Washington travels to San Francisco on Monday night. If the Commanders lose, the East will have gone two straight weeks without a victory. The rest of the country will keep watching the North rack up wins and wonder when the East will finally show some fight.

Wyatt Matters

Middle America still believes in earned wins, not excuses. When teams protect the ball, play defense, and respect the game, the scoreboard tells the truth. Heartland fans want to see that same grit from every squad, not just the ones wearing green and gold.
