A wave of anti-marriage sentiment fueled by viral social media trends and celebrity culture is backfiring on the women who bought into it, according to a powerful new analysis. While the left celebrates divorces and demonizes men, data shows married women live longer, earn more, and report vastly higher life satisfaction than their single counterparts.
An opinion piece this week exposed the growing phenomenon of “heteropessimism”—essentially, women’s rising hostility and disappointment toward relationships with men. The cultural shift has been turbocharged by viral TikTok trends like “divorce glow-ups” and bestselling books that portray husbands as either useless man-babies or toxic patriarchs.
The damage is measurable. Official Census Bureau data from December reveals that just 47% of American households in 2025 were married couples, down from nearly 66% fifty years ago. Of those married households, only 37% included their own children under 18, compared to 54% in 1975.
One recent novel targeting tradwife influencers reduces men to cartoon villains, referring to husbands as “freaks” and painting them as either idiotic slobs or members of a “sexist manosphere.” This is what passes for mainstream women’s literature in 2026 America.
The pattern is overwhelmingly political. Left-leaning Americans abandon traditional family structures far more often than conservatives, and the consequences show up in the data.
A 2024 American Family Survey found stark differences in life satisfaction. Among women ages 18 to 40, 37% of conservatives and 28% of moderates reported being “completely satisfied” with their lives. Liberal women? Just 12%.
But the celebration continues. Women who “free themselves” from marriage are held up as heroes across Hollywood and social media. Author Elizabeth Gilbert and model Emily Ratajkowski have made careers championing singlehood and post-divorce life.
In April, comedian Leslie Jones went even further, declaring that marriage is “legalized slavery” and claiming most married people she knows are now divorced.
The “divorce glow up” TikTok trend perfectly captures the contradiction. Women post before-and-after photos celebrating their splits, typically looking “happier and more radiant” in the after shot. What they don’t post are the long-term studies showing married women’s superior health, longevity, and earning power.
Author Louise Perry, who wrote “The Case Against the Sexual Revolution,” argues that young women are being alienated after getting burned by hookup culture and lacking genuine friendships with men. Perry’s solution isn’t to abandon men—it’s to return to marriage.
The analysis concludes that while marriage won’t work for everyone, men and women need to find their way back to each other.
“Discounting marriage won’t get them there,” the piece warned.

Working families know what the data confirms—strong marriages build strong communities, and stable homes raise healthier, happier kids. When Hollywood and social media influencers convince an entire generation that men are the enemy and marriage is oppression, they’re not just attacking tradition. They’re robbing young women of the partnerships, security, and fulfillment that make life worth living. The left’s cultural experiment with man-hating and family destruction is producing exactly what common sense predicted: lonelier, unhappier women and a collapsing birth rate that threatens America’s future.

Men are getting treated terribly and avoid women of good stature, too. This disease is destructive even for families and it is time these feminist propagandists shut the pie hole.
Good men and women must call them out. I personally dealt with this in the 60s and their crap is not new.

Being a happily married man for 52 years and having spent 53 years together dating and marriage. Both of us not expecting the stars to align, or cockleshells and rainbows. Knowing the Marine Enlisted life is not going to be easy. We stuck it out. Many of the women that I know would not have been accepting of the many things we experienced in the 17.5 years we shared while I was enlisted. Luckily we did no have too many long separations. And life since I retired was actually more time restraining in family situation. But the whole liberal anti marriage, family thing is really being exposed in my opionion. It takes dedication as it always has to be a family. Many couples are not ready to face a committment like that. Men and women both.

And we don’t even need to go into the “letter people”! They won’t have kids. And then those libs that have given their children sex change drugs and surgery have ruined the lives of those children and any they “might” have had. So sad. I love being a wife with a strong husband and we make a great team and have for many many years. I love being a Mother of good strong children and grandchildren that are good members of Society, holding jobs and enjoying life. Feel a “little” sorry for those that chose to ignore all life has to offer in a good solid, God fearing/following family.

The feminist movement was the worst thing to ever happen to women! Little girls have been told they can have or do it all. Children were put on the back burner while they pursued high power careers. By the time they got around to having a baby they were never home, tired when they did get home and ignoring them. Most of their kids were raised by daycare or, if they were lucky, grandparents. Mom was more concerned with being her child’s friend than teachimg them manners and how to be a good human beings when they grow up. Kids have enough friends. They need strong, loving, caring parents who show them affection and teach them right from wrong. It’s no wonder they’re turning to gangs when they don’t get that at home. And I’m really sick of all the female save the day movies and tv shows. Women are no longer shrinking violets who faint at the sight of a raccoon anymore. We got the message. But they’re sure not the do all, save the day super heros of every single situation either. Give us strong, handsome alpha males again! I, for one, would love to see a good old fashioned traditional love story…without the snarky “I don’t need a man to save me” biatch.

I read article years ago about women who go for career first and marriage later found that once they established their careers they were in their thirty’s. However, they men available in their age group were divorced. These men had already gone through fatherhood and were not about through fatherhood again. When they found a good man, these men were interested in someone younger, not an older women.
I feel sorry for these women fell for this garbage.

They all fall for the wrong man. They like the bad boys, and men who treat them like shit. It’s their own stupid ass faults.
