Vice President JD Vance is lifting the veil on one of President Donald Trump’s most old-school expectations for his inner circle: dress like you mean business.
Speaking on the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast released Thursday, Vance explained that Trump’s strict dress code isn’t about vanity. It’s about honoring the office and the American people.
“The president has a certain sense that you ought to respect the place, you ought to respect the institution, respect the office. And one of the ways you do that is by dressing like a normal person,” Vance said. “And I think that’s — it’s a very old-fashioned thing.”
According to the vice president, Trump’s wardrobe rules are simple but firm: navy suits, black shoes, solid ties. No exceptions. And definitely no brown shoes — a violation that will get you called out on the spot.
“Well, I mean, he always has — it’s always a navy suit. It’s almost always a solid tie. It’s always black shoes,” Vance explained. “Like, he’ll bust the chops of some of the Cabinet members if they’ve got brown shoes on.”
Trump himself confirmed earlier this year that he sometimes takes matters into his own hands. During an interview on “The Brian Kilmeade Show” in March, the president admitted he’s bought officials new shoes when they don’t measure up.
“When they tell me they have a problem, I say, ‘Let me get you a pair of shoes,'” Trump told Kilmeade.
Vance recalled what he called the “Zelensky moment” — when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy showed up to the Oval Office in his signature military-style casual wear. A reporter asked Zelenskyy why he wasn’t wearing a suit. The tension was palpable.
At a follow-up White House meeting in August, Zelenskyy arrived in formal attire. A reporter told him he looked “fabulous in that suit,” and Trump chimed in with approval.
“I said the same thing,” Trump added.
“That was not a good moment for him,” Vance said of Zelenskyy’s earlier casual appearance. “And it’s funny because things kind of worked out. I think, you know, we were able to repair that relationship.”
Even Trump’s own family isn’t immune. Vance remembered a 9/11 memorial service during the 2024 campaign when Trump noticed his son Don Jr. wearing a spread collar.
“They’re reading out the names. But there’s — at one point, the president turns around and looks at Don Jr. And Don has like, a spread collar on. And the president’s like, ‘Oh, that’s a pretty wide collar there, Don,'” Vance recalled.
“And you can tell, like, it just was absolutely a dig. So I’ve always — navy suit, black shoes and a conventional collar,” Vance added.

The white House has been a playground the past 4 years with sleepy Joe wandering around. Now Trump is having to clean so many messes, live the open border, not taking a firm hand with foreign countries and NATO a joke!

Liberal nurses and other medical professionals make videos about how they’re going to do whatever is necessary to make sure conservatives are harmed when they go to hospitals and doctor’s offices. I never once heard any democratic congressman call for violence. I’ve heard them call for impeachment and amendment 25. You’re just making shit up. Your party is letting ICE loose to beat up and drag immigrants in the street, where they work or go to school and at court where they are legally applying for entrance. Most waited for six years to get to that point. Only 7% of their kidnapped people have any criminal record at all. But you are ok with that travesty. You’ve been lied to so much you just give up and believe the biggest liar ever on the public stage. And yes we waited 15 years before we started saying we need a better assassin. If Trump truly respected the office, he wouldn’t be so obsessed with the color of shoes, he’d resign. He hasn’t shown a lick of respect for the office, our Constitution, or the American people during his entire time in office ( first term included). He fails at everything, his recent “surrender” to Iran included, and at this point over 60% of America can’t wait to see him change from his “professional” blue suit to an orange prison jumpsuit.

What has he failed at?
– Secured US border and stopped illegal alien invasion
– Destroyed Iran’s nuclear sites, increasing chances for peace in the middle east.
– Brokered peace in Africa, ending 30 year war between Rwanda and Congo.
– Brokered peace between Pakistan and India.
– Forced China, Canada, India, Europe and others to begin to equilize trade and reduce their barriers to US exports
– S&P 500 are at record highs
– Gasoline, and more importantly Diesel prices (since most everything we buy is made or shipped, or our homes heated with it) at lowest level in years.
– Minimal inflation, despite predictions of tariff effect.
– Multibillions of revenue from tariffs helping reduce the unsustainable federal deficit.
– Deported or detained illegal alien criminals, including many Iranian terrorist affiliates.
– Got NATO “allies” to contribute their fair share to mutual defense.
– “Big Beautiful Bill” avoided huge tax increase that would have occurred with the expiration of 2017 tax bill.
– Removed the Federal “Death Tax” for the vast majority of Americans.
– First President ever to reduce the size of the federal government.
– Reduced crime and cleaned up Washington D.C.
– No tax on tips, overtime and social security.
– Increased child tax credit to $13,000 per family.
We know he’s not perfect but he loves this country and its citizens.
Your side needs to take a long, hard look at what your leadership did…censorship and weaponization of govt against American citizens; allowing 10+ millions of unvetted military age men from unfriendly countries, drug dealers, terrorist gang members, child traffickers, mental patients, rapists and thieves to enter the US illegally and giving all of them free housing, phones, healthcare, and thousands of dollars every month while citizens struggled to pay their bills…to name a few.

Our country will never be whole again until you have the judiciary as well as the media doing their jobs which will not be any time soon.
