Wyatt’s Take

  • Team USA beats Canada 5-3 in World Baseball Classic quarters.
  • Third straight big win over Canada in under a month.
  • Mason Miller slams door with key strikeout.

Americans keep dominating Canada on the world sports stage.

We took gold in Olympic hockey for men and women, now this WBC quarterfinal victory pushes us to semis versus Dominican Republic.

Logan Webb started strong for USA. Hits from Kyle Schwarber, Alex Bregman, Brice Turang and Pete Crow-Armstrong gave us a 5-0 lead by sixth.

Canada rallied with Tyler Black RBI single and Bo Naylor two-run homer.

Seventh inning brought their best shot, two on and no outs. They popped out then struck out twice without scoring.

Mason Miller struck out Otto Lopez to close the ninth at Daikin Park in Houston.

Manager Mark DeRosa said hockey hero Jack Hughes fired up the team.

“Jack Hughes sent the boys a nice little fire-up message that I put out on their group chat,” DeRosa said.

“I know there are some talks about some hockey jerseys being sent in tomorrow for the guys to wear during BP or out and about in the clubhouse.”

Folks, nothing beats watching American grit shine against the northern neighbor. Tell us how this fires you up.
