Wyatt’s Take

  • Tropical Storm Humberto forms in the Atlantic, heading northwest
  • Forecasters keep a close eye on Invest 94L for possible development
  • Storms stay off the East Coast, but folks remain alert

Tropical Storm Humberto spun up in the Atlantic, making it the eighth storm this hurricane season to earn a name.

The system is tracking to the northwest, carrying 40 mph winds, with forecasters predicting it could become a hurricane by the weekend.

Right now, Humberto is expected to reach Category 2 or 3 strength but is projected to curve out to sea, staying hundreds of miles from the U.S. East Coast. No threat to land for now, but eyes stay on the forecast.

The National Hurricane Center says they’re also monitoring Invest 94L, which shows signs of becoming a depression soon near the northeastern Caribbean. Heavy rains and gusty winds are already stirring up in the Windward and Leeward Islands.

NOAA Hurricane Hunters plan to fly missions into Invest 94L to gather more data. Folks in the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos are being advised to keep an eye on updates.

Stay tuned for more updates this hurricane season—November 30th is still a ways off, and folks down south know you can’t let your guard down until it’s over.
