January 1, Cyberattack Halts European Airport Check-Ins
Wyatt’s Take
- Europe’s airport systems hit by cyberattack
- Long waits and stranded travelers due to manual processing
- Security weaknesses exposed in travel infrastructure
A cyberattack late Friday night took down check-in and boarding systems in several European airports.
Airports in Brussels, Berlin, and London saw major delays as airlines switched to manual check-ins.
The slow process led to passengers waiting in long lines, with thousands left stuck or delayed.
Brussels Airport said the attack targeted their partner running check-in and boarding, not the airports directly.
“An attack was launched against our check-in and boarding system provider, which caused a major interruption in our services, affecting several airports across Europe,” a spokesperson from Brussels Airport said.
