January 1, DOJ Gun Ban Scheme Stirs Conservative Backlash
Wyatt’s Take
- The DOJ is considering banning gun sales for those with gender dysphoria.
- This proposal goes beyond existing mental health barriers for buying firearms.
- Critics say it erodes Second Amendment rights without fixing deeper problems.
The Department of Justice is rumored to be weighing a move to block Americans with gender dysphoria from buying guns. A leaked comment from a DOJ insider said, “Individuals within the DOJ are reviewing ways to ensure that mentally ill individuals suffering from gender dysphoria are unable to obtain firearms while they are unstable and unwell.”
This possible ban has stirred up debate. Some say targeting people with gender issues doesn’t keep anyone safer. Current gun laws already stop those who have been ruled mentally unfit or committed to institutions from buying firearms. The required 4473 background check form specifically asks if someone has been “adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution.”
Opponents argue that the real problem isn’t a lack of laws, but a culture and government that now encourages confusion over gender. As some see it, more gun rules only distract from addressing violence at its root. One DOJ source reportedly commented, “Democrats have called for common sense gun laws for a long time.”
Some worry this effort could pull conservative lawmakers into supporting stricter gun laws. Instead, they urge enforcing the mental health rules already in place, and pushing back against organizations that promote radical gender ideology. Many are also calling to remove “non-binary” gender options on federal firearms forms, saying it only adds confusion.
The Trump administration is under pressure from conservative voices to stay true to the Second Amendment. They argue more gun bans won’t fix the bigger issues facing American families today.

Policies that chip away at constitutional rights hit home for hard-working folks. Fixing broken systems is what will actually safeguard our communities, not taking away freedoms from law-abiding citizens.

Yes! As a supporter of 2A, admitted or known transgenders or people suffering from gender dysphoria should not be able to buy guns. Just like any person that commits a felony or is known to do illegal drugs (or even legal drugs by State standards but illegal federally- medical marijuana is one) or has any history of mental institutions.

Yes, if gender dysphoria is considered a mental illness, than it is covered by the current law, and should be enforced as such. I agree with Wyatt that all confusion should be taken out of the application and the 4473 background check; there are only 2 genders, that were created, male and female; and placating to culture should stop, as it allows for confusion, cloudiness and perpetual erosion of truth. More laws are not the answer, clarity and enforcement of current laws is a good place to begin. Gun access is only part of the larger discussion, crime, crime and punishment, family, mental health, access to mental health support/care, education, eligible age, etc….. A great deal to be addressed outside of access

This seems like a huge step in the wrong direction. Though it seems like keeping guns out of the hands of crazy people is a good idea, I have very little trust in politicians (especially future politicians) having the power to decide who is crazy. Consider the fact that nearly half of them currently insist that people who are confused about their own gender are “just fine” and they want to “help” them correct God’s mistakes with chemicals and surgery. Next they will want to “help” me (at the point of a gun) because I’m sure which I am.

Hell everybody is crazy at one time or another!
Leave the law alone! Just prosecute and jail for years the offender!

There are laws on the books now to stop mental folks from buying them. Just in force what laws are there now. And unless they show they are mentally unstable you can not stop all of these types of shootings. The majority should not have to suffer because of the minority, think about it because someone else can’t control them selves you don’t get the right to protect your self or your family. Nope just work with the laws that are in force now. Just MHO
