Michael Douglas made a surprising discovery on a recent episode of the PBS show “Finding Your Roots.” The show explores celebrities’ ancestral backgrounds and revealed through DNA analysis that Douglas is related to another famous actor.

The program initially relied on a “paper trail” to explore Douglas’ ancestry. Host Henry Louis Gates Jr. had Douglas flip a page in a book to unveil the identity of his relative. The 79-year-old actor was amazed to find a photograph of Scarlett Johansson.

“Ahh! Are you kidding?” Douglas exclaimed. “That’s amazing. Alright, this is cool. This is so cool.”

The DNA test showed that Douglas and Johansson share four identical strands of chromosomes, making them distant cousins. These chromosomes are all from Johansson’s maternal side of the family, which traces back to Jewish ancestry from Eastern Europe.

“That’s incredible. Well, I look forward to seeing Scarlett next time,” Douglas said. His representative confirmed that he had not yet reached out to Johansson since discovering their familial link.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Johansson has been linked to another celebrity on “Finding Your Roots.” Three years ago, television personality Andy Cohen, executive producer of the “Real Housewives” franchise, learned he is also related to the Academy Award-nominated actress.

“Scar Jo? Yes! You’re kidding me?” Cohen said upon finding out. Gates Jr. revealed that the two shared five identical chromosomes, revealing a connection to “one half of her family.”

Johansson also appeared on the show in 2017, becoming emotional after learning her ancestors had suffered through the Holocaust.
