January 1, White House Denies Disaster Relief to Ohio After Toxic Chemical Spill

The Biden administration has denied requests from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) to provide emergency disaster relief after a 50-car train carrying toxic chemicals derailed in East Palestine on Feb. 3.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) told state officials that Ohio is “not eligible” for assistance.
“The DeWine Administration has been in daily contact with FEMA to discuss the need for federal support, however FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time,” DeWine’s office told Fox News Digital in a statement. “Governor DeWine will continue working with FEMA to determine what assistance can be provided.”
A FEMA spokesperson told the outlet that the agency is in “constant contact with the emergency operations center in East Palestine” but did not comment on the request for federal assistance.
On Friday, the White House explained why it denied DeWine’s request. A Biden administration official said that FEMA usually provides relief to communities impacted by natural disasters such as hurricanes.
“The Biden Administration is mobilizing a robust, multi-agency effort to support the people of East Palestine, Ohio. Since February 3, the Environmental Protection Agency has had personnel on the ground,” the official told Fox News Digital. “FEMA is coordinating with the emergency operations center working closely with the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.”
“But what East Palestine needs is much more expansive than what FEMA can provide,” the official said. “FEMA is on the frontlines when there is a hurricane or tornado. This situation is different.”
However, according to FEMA’s website: “Disasters can come in many forms. FEMA responds to all declared domestic disasters and emergencies, whether natural or man-made.”
For instance, FEMA provided aid after the Tennessee explosion on Dec. 25, 2020, in which a lone bomber detonated an improvised explosive device in downtown Nashville on Christmas morning.
On Feb. 3, a Norfolk Southern Railroad train hauling vinyl chloride derailed in East Palestine, a small town near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border.
The company chose to release the gas from the derailed cars — releasing hazardous chemicals and potentially deadly fumes into the air — to avoid an explosion. Residents were ordered to evacuate, but told it was safe to return on Feb. 9.
Officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state government have assured residents that the air and water are safe. But some experts disagree.
“This really looks like a nuclear winter,” local hazardous materials specialist Sil Caggiano told the outlet. “Pretty much, yeah, we nuked this town with chemicals.”
Former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI) blasted the Biden administration, calling Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg “arrogant” and saying the administration only “care about themselves.”
“They’re so arrogant. They think that they’re special. They’re above the law, they’re above reproach, they’re above accountability. They clearly don’t care about us. They think they can get away with anything. We have to demand more,” Gabbard said.
“They have shown us already that they do not care about us. They don’t respect us so much that they think we’re stupid and continue to lie to us and make up stories to cover their own backside. They could have taken action to prevent this,” she added.

Ok…..folks…let’s place this East Palestine scenario say … in CA, or MA, or wi where Democratic voters are densely populated.. I think there was a mad scramble in the White House to come up with a statement politically slanted that disfavored a Conservative State, vs what we know for certain what their response would be towards a democratic state. Soooo – Biden lies again by saying that he’s a president for all Americans, further eroding what’s left of the little confidence we’ve had in his ability to lead and protect all of us……not just his favored voters. This 77 year old Vietnam Vet is saddened, disappointed, disillusioned, and angry today of what’s happening to the America i and so many others give our life to support and protect this beautiful people and country just to have some dimwit come along to destroy it all.
