January 1, Biden Pokes Fun at His Own Dwindling Approval Ratings [Video]
The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) held its famed correspondents’ dinner, packed with politicians, journalists, and celebrities in attendance.
President Joe Biden delivered a few jokes, with a few of them being at his own expense.
“A special thanks to the 42 percent of you that actually applauded,” Biden said. “I’m really excited to be here tonight with the only group of Americans with a lower approval rating than I have.”
The president also poked fun at his age.
Biden noted that Calvin Coolidge was the first president to attend the correspondents’ dinner in 1924 —right after Biden “had just been elected to the United States Senate.”
Trevor Noah, the host of The Daily Show, also delivered jokes at the “nation’s most distinguished superspreader event.”
The comedian poked fun at White House press secretary Jen Psaki over her rumored defection to MSNBC.
“If it’s true, congratulations to Jen and your big career change,” Noah said. “But you know switching to MSNBC is going to be a big change because right now, your current job is to make the Biden administration look as good as possible at all costs. Now that you’re going to be at MSNBC, you’re going to have to — you’ll be fine, actually.”
