The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has issued a fine to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign for misreporting the money used to fund the infamous Trump-Russia dossier.

The FEC said that Clinton and the DNC violated election rules on publicly reporting any expenditures exceeding $200.

The FEC fined the Clinton campaign $8,000 and the DNC $105,000 for the misconduct — erroneously disclosing the dossier funding as “legal services” and “legal compliance consulting” instead of opposition research.

According to the FEC letter, the Clinton campaign and the DNC paid more than $1 million to the law firm Perkins Coie, which hired Fusion GPS to conduct opposition research. Fusion GPS then hired Christopher Steele to create the dossier.

The Clinton Campaign and the DNC did not admit to violating campaign finance laws, according to the FEC letter, however, they did agree to accept the civil fines to settle the matter.
